A New Canvas: Keith Haring’s Art Takes Over Charing Cross

Commuters step into art history as Absolut Vodka turns Charing Cross into “Haring Cross,” a two-day celebration of Keith Haring’s iconic Absolut collaborations.

For 48 hours only, London’s Charing Cross Tube station has been transformed into “Haring Cross,” an immersive pop-up celebrating the legendary artist Keith Haring and his iconic collaboration with Absolut Vodka. This isn’t just an ad campaign; it’s an experience and a vibrant testament to the power of art to intersect with everyday life and make a statement in an unexpected space. Commuters are getting more than just a ride; they’re stepping into an art exhibition, proving “art is for everybody.” Fittingly, this is a phrase that Haring has always championed.

Haring famously used the New York City subway as his canvas, filling empty advertising panels with his now-iconic chalk drawings. The “Haring Cross” takeover revives this spirit, bringing his work back to the underground where his energy first ignited. Two of his original Absolut Vodka paintings from 1986 are on display for the first time in the UK, turning a busy ticket hall into an unexpected gallery.

More than anything, the collaboration is a bold reminder that art doesn’t belong exclusively in museums or galleries. It can be found on a bottle, a t-shirt, or, in this case, on the walls of a bustling transport hub. It’s a joyful, public spectacle that invites everyone, even those on their daily commute or the curious tourist, to engage with Haring’s legacy of using creativity as a unifying force. As Absolut’s VP of Global Marketing, Deb Dasgupta, puts it, it’s a reminder that “creativity can inspire, uplift, unite and open minds.” Mind the gap and catch Haring Cross now before it departs.
