Once again, the fashion world chooses to push the envelope by insisting that fashion has no age. If anyone knows how to stun the fashion world by choosing an unconventional face to represent his brand, it’s Hedi Slimane, designer for Saint Laurent Paris. His new campaign features 71-year-old singing legend, Joni Mitchell, and the news was ironically released two days after fashion brand Celine selected 80-year-old Joan Didion as their new campaign star. Could there be a trend in the works?
In many ways, this decision is the perfect fit for Saint Laurent’s nostalgic collection, with references to the days of Woodstock and a grungy feel that reflects the 70’s comeback, which has jumpstarted 2015. The campaign is part of a series in the Saint Laurent Music Project and has included faces like Marianne Faithfull, Kim Gordon, Chuck Berry, Marilyn Manson, and Courtney Love.
In the campaign photos, Joni is featured with her guitar in an Yves Saint Laurent cape and a wide rimmed fedora getting lost in her music.
Watch the Saint Laurent magic come alive in these campaign photos.
