MOD Luxe Hotel Review: The Franklin London

Bringing the luxury of Italian hospitality to London, this ravishingly refined hotel is defined by its intimate setting, sleek, sophisticated design, high-end amenities, and exquisite dining experience.

AN EVENING OF ELEGANCE: The Franklin hotel offers a divine experience of secluded luxury with a touch of Italian influence. Situated on a quiet street in the heart of Knightsbridge, this posh property is one of London’s most exclusive five-star destinations.

With its opulent interior and Italian Art Deco atmosphere, the Franklin hotel makes a dazzling initial impression. From the Venetian stone flooring and embroidered furnishings, to the bold brass accents and shimmering mirrored surfaces, each fine detail—expertly designed by the legendary Anouska Hempel—adds to the hotel’s uniquely elegant allure. As an upscale property of Florence-based, family-owned hotel group, Starhotels Collezione, the Franklin’s distinctive Italian flair is one of its most defining features.

The luxurious 35-room hotel is discreetly tucked away among the Victorian redbrick townhouses of the affluent Knightsbridge area. In addition to the calm, residential vibe of the neighborhood, the conveniently centralized location is just a simple stroll away from some of London’s most iconic shops and attractions—including the world-famous Harrods, as well as the Victoria & Albert and National History Museums. On the back end of the Franklin lies a private communal haven of perfectly manicured lawns, trees and flowerbeds, known as the exclusive Egerton Gardens. The view of this beautiful verdant expanse is a rarified pleasure hotel guests can take in from the Garden Suite windows, the outdoor Garden Terrace, or the dining room of the Franklin Restaurant.

The property’s eponymous restaurant, overseen by Michelin-starred Italian chef, Alfredo Russo, offers the finest selection of modern Italian cuisine. The intimate dining space, which seats 30 guests, is enhanced by its glamorously modern decor, featuring a monochromatic color scheme with botanical prints, smoky églomisé mirrors and silk velvet seating. The Gatsby-inpired bar area is characterized by a similar decor, with elements of upscale 1920s style. The Franklin Bar carries extensive cocktail and champagne menus, as well as 22 types of gin—perfect for an apértif or nightcap.

Guests of the Franklin hotel also have access to a lavishly relaxing hammam, with spa and beauty treatments, a 24-hour gym, with personal training services available upon request, and a peaceful library/work space.

GARDEN SUITE:

Of the 35 rooms available at the Franklin hotel, there are 19 suites, including the cozy, luxurious Garden Suite. This room features an elegant, timeless decor with the sophisticated touch of Anouska Hempel’s signature style. The understated palette of muted tones pairs well with the room’s shiny mirrored accents and richly varnished wooden floors. The sumptuous space is flooded with natural light from the full-height windows, overlooking the lovely Egerton Gardens. Large, framed mirrors reflect even more light and billowing curtains draw your eyes up towards the high ceilings, further opening up the room. The plush, four-poster beds are draped in the finest Italian linens by Frette, while bathrooms come stocked with high-end bath products by Penhaligon, GHD hair dryers, thick, fluffy towels, and complimentary bathrobes and slippers. All rooms include modern amenities, such as Samsung Smart TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, pillow menus, and 24-hour room service.

PRESIDENTIAL SUITE:

The Franklin Presidential Suite offers the most extravagant luxury experience. The vast 667-square-foot floorspace includes a stylish private lounge, spacious walk-in closet and large, double-sink bathroom. The lavish sitting area features an exquisite, sophisticated design, with marbled surfaces, embellished mirrors, opulent furnishings, and stunning park views. Inky blues and moody grays set the tone of the room, while splashes of gold accents and botanical prints offer a stylish, contemporary appeal. Extra perks for reserving this unit include VIP treatment, late checkout opportunities, and discounts at the Franklin Restaurant.
