Built on the site of the historic Cedar Hotel, Viceroy Chicago perfectly melds elements of past and present. The reconstructed brick and terracotta façade preserves notes of the original 1920s-era property, while the sleek 18-story pleated glass tower adds a contemporary twist.

The interior boasts a uniquely elegant blend of Art Deco and mid-century modern decor. Upon entering the triple-height lobby atrium, your gaze is immediately drawn to the striking mural of Marcel Proust quotes, decorating a soaring 30-foot wall. Each exquisite design detail lends itself to Viceroy’s signature style—from the polished marble floors to the brass light fixtures. Just past the lobby, you’ll find two registration desks, clad in bronze, resting in front of a large cubist painting by South American artist, Badi. You certainly won’t mind waiting in this cozy common area—thanks to the toasty fireplace and plush seating—but the check-in process is swift, nonetheless.

Vibrant, raised-paneled doors set the scene, from the moment you enter your room—as if you’re walking into a home, rather than a mere hotel space. (The hardwood-floored foyer adds an extra luxurious touch!) Each of Viceroy Chicago’s 180 guest rooms, including 18 suites, are dripping in dazzling, retro-chic decor. Styled by interior design firm, TAL Studio, the Deluxe bedrooms feature a bold color palette of gold and black, with a splash of turquoise. The headboard wall is decorated with a striking geometric pattern, which creates an eye-catching contrast to the crisp white bedding. Gilded accents and pendant light fixtures add a glamorous flair, while floor-to-ceiling windows provide a sweeping city backdrop. (There are no bad views at this hotel, but for a stunning glimpse of Lake Michigan, be sure to request a lakeview room!) In addition to the stylishly distinctive aesthetic, each space comes equipped with a Smart TV, bedside and desk charging ports, free WiFi, and a Nespresso machine with complimentary coffee.

Deluxe bathrooms at the Viceroy are as lush as ever, featuring a double-sink design with LED vanity mirrors, a glass-enclosed marble shower with a rainfall showerhead, adjustable light settings, and a separate toilet room. Upgraded offerings also include a large soaking tub, perfect for an evening of relaxation. Full-sized, reusable bottles of Natura Bissé body products and ROIL haircare come standard.

Beyond the luxurious comfort of the rooms, there’s plenty to enjoy on the property—from the restaurant and fitness center, to the rooftop lounge and pool. There’s also the neighboring Exhale Spa for an array of wellness experiences.

The on-site restaurant, Somerset, is certainly a highlight of the Viceroy Chicago experience. Managed by award-winning Boka Restaurant Group, this highly-acclaimed eatery serves an all-day selection of sophisticated American cuisine by Michelin-starred chef, Lee Wolen. Some standout menu items include Spicy Lamb & Merguez Meatballs, Ricotta Dumplings and Duck Fettuccine. If you happen to stop by during lunch time, you can’t go wrong with the Crispy Chicken Sandwich or the Kale & Brussels Sprouts Salad. And if you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, the Chocolate Layer Cake is truly exceptional! Somerset also offers in-room services for guests, including specialized menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

For the perfect nightcap, head up to the 18th floor to grab some cocktails and light bites at Devereaux. This swanky rooftop lounge, complete with a seasonal pool, has some of the Windy City’s most striking skyline views.

Guests looking to venture out will surely enjoy Viceroy’s exclusive Gold Coast location. The upscale area is known for its proximity to the city’s best offerings—from fine dining and entertainment to high-end fashion boutiques. The hotel is simply a stroll away from the Magnificent Mile, the stretch of North Michigan Avenue, bustling with endless shopping options. And, of course, no stay would be complete without a visit to esteemed pizza joint, Lou Malnati’s, for a taste of Chicago’s signature deep dish—after all, the famed establishment is conveniently located right next door!
